New fish(but one dead). Please help ID

Nope not a Tarpon, actually a Payara, Hydrolycus scomberoides.


What size tank is this? Payara get BIG.

Not necessarily there are 4 kinds of payara and I dont think this one is a scomb

hydrolycus scomberoides
hydrolycus armatus
hydrolycus tatauaia
and hydrolycus walleci

Im 80% sure your fish is an armatus just becuse of the tail size and fin collorage but its hard to tell from the pics But I would say armatus. Also becuse its laying flat against the bottom scomb's USUALLY are at an angle.

I'm stuck between Armatus and Tat. But leaning more towards Armatus
Scomb is out the Q IMO.

I say Tat cause of head shape but Armatus cause of tail shape.

Give him some food and in a few days snap another pic... Or snap one at tonight so the day light doesn't make the pics so bright.

I would give it some cover. That fish looks stressed and needs something to hide out under for a few days until it gets used to the tank.

Well you did'nt see me saying it was a scomb.

I would give it some cover. That fish looks stressed and needs something to hide out under for a few days until it gets used to the tank.

Wether it's a Scomb or an Armatus, it still needs a very big tank... OP, how big is the tank?

Tell me about it! Those that ID the fish as scomb may haven't kept one yet!
