If someone were to give me the Conscientious Marine Aquarist, I'd use it to start my fireplace. Bob Fenner is one of the lamest, most pompous, full of himself people I've ever met. His advice (99% of the time) is completely rediculous and asinine. Just look at some of his advice for fish and their minimum tank size!...worst than sites like Live Aquaria...he says stuff like a 30gal tank, for an adult Yellow Tang.

Me and a friend, who I used to work at Shedd Aquarium with, talked to him one time. About 2 minutes into his "advice", we just turned around and walked away. It was laughable, at the stuff he was saying.

Having read this I turned to my closes rendition of the CMA, page 304 of the 2001 edition of the CMA cites, and I quote, "I would recomend at least a 50-gallon system for a growing surgeonfish." While this may not be on par with certain peoples opinions of no less than a 6' (125 gallon) tank.. it most certainly is not asinine.
Not only these, but other citation of recomended tank sizes are of considerable conservancy. These include the, "requisite 30-gallon system for canthigaster species... canthigaster species are hardy, small (4 inches or less) undemanding tankmates".
While it's also considered mildy conservative to keep the similarly sized, tempered, dieted, and active figure eight puffer in as little as a half to a third of that space.

No matter what Robert Fenner's former, current, or future beliefs on tank tank stocking and minimum size requirements.. the book remains an accurate and truely conscientous peice of information.

Also, those mystery fish resemble Hector's Goby.. not Rainsford.

Slam dunk BIG g CMA is a great book for beginning aquarist how ever I dont know about hector more pics will tell. I do have to say that the sheid was one of the most enjoyable places I've ever vacationed to and I envy the man or woman whom gets that experenice.
