NEW FISH COMING - I'M NERVOUS!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if your that worried about the filter carts, replace 1 of them, but not both, otherwise you'll be completely starting from scratch.
as for acclimation, I've never dealt with shipped livestock, but when I buy from a lfs I don't use drip method either.
I usually float the bag 10-15minutes. Open it up, and then add about half-1 full cup of water from tank, let sit another 5 minutes, add another, wait 5 minutes, add another...and depending on how sensitive the fish is at this point I eiather toss em in, or do it a few more times...

Okay, I'm not gonna keep freaking out. I just want them to he happy fishies!

I normally don't recomend adding new fish to a newly established tank, but good luck.
I don't get it. I add old fish? sorry, you confused me.

Won't the ammonia and nitrate raise really quick when I add them? Wouldn't it be good to do a water change after about 72 hours? Like a 1/4?

Anybody else got any suggestions?

if your tank has been cycled, then there should not be any ammonia or nitrite hikes.

I meant like adding fishes that you want to a newly established tank. I usually add fishes that I don't intend to keep like goldfish or barbs in a new tank.

ming.. you seriously dont know what prime is.... you can cycle a tank in days with prime

Gotcha! I had some shrimp in their for about 2 weeks and they shat all over the place so I dumped em in my friends tank.

id definitely acclimate the fish with water from the tank. Dumping them in might
cause the fish to go into ph shock. They are not sensitive fish so you dont have to use
drip. Of course all of that depends on the condition of the fish . If the fish looks like its going belly up, then it has to go to straight to the tank by all means.

You need to at least take the filter pads from a running tank and put them in your new tank,as well as some of the older water.Drop the new fish into your tank,no lights or food for at least 1 day(better if 2 days)good luck!!

so what did you cycle your tank with mcmemily?

don't tell me Prime.

if you've only had cycled with shrimp for 2 weeks, then there's no way your tank is cycled.
I started with 50% new water and 50% water from my 75g. And yes, I added prime. I had the shrimp and I've hade plants and snails for over a month. Used wood from my other tank too. it's been running for almost 2 months now. You don't think it's cycled yet?
Wouldn't it most likely be cycled by this time with out the chemicals and shrimp?
