wat does mine look like
<------------ my avatar

It looks like a gold saum but I cannot see the scales to clearly so I have to go by what appears to be orange on the fins (although from what I can see the scales appear to be gold saum). If indeed I am seeing red finnage then it is definitely a gold saum because rivulatus and silver saum both have silver coloring not red.

Well now that I see them, I like my Gold Saum best. He's got better coloration. :D

I had a gold saum, and I think they are beauties, especially when full grown. I wish I had a picture to post, it had a deep blue-green body and bright orange trim on the fins . . .

I remember the day I traded it in at the LFS (my JD was owning it) and they were thrilled to get it . . . I came back the next day to see how it was doing, and it was already sold

call it what you want - - I do think it is a gold saum, by the way - - but I also think it is good to know what everyone is arguing about . . . wait till you try to buy a Blue Acara, or a "Texas" :)

ACtually it is a real gt. Gold Saum, Silver Saum and Rivulatus (Silbersaum) are all 'real gt'.

(Taken from a thread I just posted this in...)
Originally there was a fish (Rivulatus) that was found and called Green Terror. There were also a couple of other fish (Gold Saum and Silver Saum) that were though to all be related to the original Green Terror and so they were called Green Terror too. Eventually they decided that Rivulatus and the other two were not the same species but the name has stuck to describe any of the three.

So what this means is that Rivulatus is the original GT. Not the true GT. All three can be regarded as true GT.

I see where your coming from. It similar with "red terrors," which is commonly used by both festae and mayans. This is why common names fail. :D

Here's a slightly (not much) better picture of him/her next to my Texas. (I moved it to the 55g):
