Some new fish ordered from Tangled Up In Cichlids and Don Conkels Tropicals.

6" Manguenese, 3" Trimac, 8" Fem Festae, 6" Male, 4.5" Friedrichstahlii & 3" RTM from TUIC. Female Festae is from Jeff from Nov 2007, rest are this weeks deliveries.

7" Barred Midas, 3" Haitiensis, 8" Carpintis 'lahillas', 5" Dovii are from DCT earlier this month.

3 questions:

What are the white lines that look like scrapes on almost every fish? Is that a lateral line that is there on most fish?

Which is the male Friedrichstahlii?

What is that on my female Festaes face? It might just be from the flash because its almost impossible to see that without it, but all the fish are starting to try and rub on the rocks and sand...as you can see none of the other fish have signs of the white stuff on their faces. A friend that has kept fish for 20+ yrs said it looks like ich with a bacterial infection. Any suggestions?

The mangunese is in a hospital tank. She was in bad shape from the trip so shes bathing in melafix.

All 22 dithers (tetras & dannios) disappeared in one night last weekend.

BTW, the Haitiensis is the smallest in the tank and will take on anyone. He has teeth marks from someone having him half in their mouth...and doesnt seem to care in the least. Those suckers are fearless!

whats your temp at?

at 80 degrees right now and Ive added salt last night and today. its a 125 gallon and I added enough salt for 40 gal last night and enough for another 40 gal tonight. I didnt want to add 25 scoops of salt at once.

Thanks!

yeah good idea well if its an infection your taking the right steps if it doesnt clearup in a week its probably not ich-like

If it is ick, you need to raise your tank temp to at least 86F and probably give to water extra aeration. Are all those fish going into a 125g tank?

Nice size fishes, must of set you back a bit.

White line going the length of their body is their lateral lines. If you look closely you'll see that all fishes has it. If waters not kept clean they can develope lateral line disease.

Stuffs on Festaes face looks to be HITH aka Hole in the Head.

I would go with HITH as well...Definitely some type of rot going on there

ok, so 86 it will be if it is ich, but it does appear to be something along the lines of HITH, I agree. The parameters are perfect in the water though and always are. Im religious about it.

Luckily, I did some web and design work for a friend that gets fish and we did a trade of sorts for some of them so it didnt set me back too much at all. Ive had the female festae for a yr now but the rest are new.

They are in a 125 for now as they are all mostly small. I will be parting with the managunese and dovii most likely, then weeding out the others until I get down to 3 or 4 that can live in the 210 together that Im getting after Christmas.
