question for all you geo guys, was thinking about adding bahia-reds with my pellegrini.Would this work?

I would say not a great choice IMO but I have never mixed species from the brasiliensis complex and steindachneri complex together. Both can be rather aggressive from my research (for geos anyway). Have you considered Guianacara? I think a school of 5-6 Guianacara Geayi would work well and look so good! They stay rather small, like to be in groups and don't need huge tanks. What size tank?

Looking great BTW John!

gruff master havent check out the video yet but will do when i get home,jk47 thanks for the advice guianacara geayi was my second choice(must have read my mine)the tank size is 75 gallons. i have noticed that the male is a little agressive towards both females but nothing serious just a little chasing.

To my knowledge most all species from the steindachneri complex are "rowdy". (conspecific aggression wise) so I doubt that would ever change. Guianacara Geayi have been a species I have always wanted to keep but no tank space.

For that size tank I would also research Biotodoma. Yould amost get away with either Wavrini or Cupido but IMO your Pellegrini would stress them to much. ^ I want those too. :grinno: Better off going with the Geayi.

thanks again jk47,they will be in the 75 for about 4 months, then they are going into 125 when i finish redoing my basement(aka fish room/buddha's cave). I just wanted to get the ones i wanted to when they move to the bigger tank every one will go in the new tank at the same time. If you have any other suggestions for tank mates let me know ,but i will diffinantly be looking for the geayi's imeddiately.

They will do great in your 125, if that's the case, are you just looking for suggestions on other mid sized SA cichlids? I think a (m/f) pair of Heros Rotkeil would be a great addition to the tank.

If your looking for smaller tankmates, look into Columbian Tetras (Hyphessobrycon Colombianus). They stay around the 2" mark maybe a little larger and are really entertaining to watch/mildly aggressive for such little guys (less than 6 and they can be fin nippers although I have never had an issue with my group). I keep a school of 8 and love them. Maybe 8 or so corycats (Corydoras Sterbai) would be cool as well if your not looking to do a biotope. You have lots of options, what are you into or have in mind?

not necessary looking to do biotope,i was considering the rotiels, but haven't made up my mind on that. They are in with 6 t passiones right now and it seems to be working out pretty good, the passiones are small about 2 inches. just wanted one other kind of fish to go with them(stock right now is trio of geophagus pellegrinni,6 t. passiones and 1 three beacon pleco5 inches, and 1 rubbernose pleco 2 inches.. the passiones seems to do a good job of keeping the pellegrinni from harrassing each other. still looking into the geayi also. thanks for all the advice.

I've had 2 breeding groups of pellegrini, I only kept them in species tanks I currently have 3 males and 7 females in a 75, with some l200's and a pair of blue goodeids, I would keep them alone they are not common and expensive, as for bahias even in a larger tank I wouldn't do it, why risk a $100 fish for a $5 fish? I introduced some new blood into my colony just recently my fish probably came from the same supplier.

thanks for the advice,so far they are settling in good, will be going into their new tank in a week after i make sure they are eating and healthy(eating like pigs already)
