New Fish Keeper, New Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you properly cycle your tank, and you have enough bio-filtration, you should never see any ammonia. Manipulating your pH to affect the toxicity of ammonia shouldn't be your concern. As long as your pH isn't extremely high or low, you will do more harm than good by trying to change it. I can't even remember the last time I tested pH.

Thanks for clearing that up bob965, sorry if it sounded like i was ignoring your advice to start with, I wasn't, I'm just trying to understand all of this.

It's all very new and exciting hehe.

BTW, since i don't think any ones mentioned this yet, if you do get some driftwood for your tank be sure to either bake it in the oven for a little while on a reasonably high temp or soak it in some hot water for up to a few hours - 2 weeks just to leech out any tannins and to kill any parasites that maybe on the wood...

Ok, thanks for that Fat Homer :-)

I might get a few funny looks if it try and bake some bits of wood hehe, can i assume i still need to do this if i buy the wood from a local fish store?
