new fish never survive in tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the kit i bought has a regular ph test and a high ph test. the arowana been living in the tank ever since i bought him/her when it was 5 inches. the jardini is very agressive. I bought a tiger oscar and the pacu at the same time but the oscar didn't make it. i woke up the next morning and the oscar was all tore up. i'm just hoping the jar. doesn't tear up the pacu.

My assessment is that your tank can't handle the bioload. That aro and a pacu are way too much bioload.

do some reading up on Jardini's.

They need to be housed either alone or with dead fish.

It is ok if you add live fish, they will end up dead anyway. (Seriously though, Jardini's will kill anything you put in with them).

My thoughts is the jardini is attacking and causing infection.

But you need to tell us if they look beat to death or they're just dead..

the oscar was beat to death. the pacu is looking healthy and good besides torn fins. melafix really works. i'm thinking about seperating the jar and pacu. i know for a fact the jar is picking on the pacu. i'll post pics of the fish when my get the digi cam back.

:iagree:

I have a hard time beleiving your Jardini is surviving in a tank with ammonia at 3.0. Are you sure your test kit is accurate?

Not sure what the dimensions of your 120g tank are, but the 120 is to small a tank for a jardini of 19". Let alone thinking of adding more large fish, ofcourse the jar seems to be taking care of that.

Research is the key. With that you would of found that jardinis are generally a "only fish in the tank" type of fish. Also you would find out that pacu s get 24-30" long and are a schooling fish.

i know how big pacus get. i use to have 5 of them 6-7 years back. i tested the water again and the ammo level is getting better. my jar is an army of one. last year i changed the water once every 2 months. thats what happens when you work 7 days a week 15 hrs a day. I'm planning on getting a 200 gal tank but i need to get rid of my 100 gal or 120 gal tank. Mom's on the hot side cause i have too many pets. 50 gal tub with 1 alligator snapper and 2 red ear slider, 100 gal stocked with lil goldfish feeders for turtles, 30 gal stocked with minnows for bass fishing, and the 120 gal with the jar and the pacu.
