new fish tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well i kept the filter from my old tank, i let the tank run before i put the fish in there, i didn't just get it today, i got the tank on saturday morning lol. so is it better to have some nitrate or is it better to have no nitrate? and live plants unfortunetly would not last with my pacu's

so since the nitrates are at 0 and amonia is at 0 i should do daily water changes of 50%? i just want to make sure i am getting this correctly.

The old filter with the original media inside should get you to ideal parameters. Hook that up to the new tank and you should be good to go, but still keep an eye on the parameters. Good luck.

ok thank-you raycer, but do you have any suggestions for that wow factor display, any plants my pacus wont eat or any fake plants that will look nice.

You really should save up for a larger tank if you plan on keeping the Pacus. Mine's out grew their 180 and are now in a 500 gallon plastic tub and it still too small

Can't go wrong with drift wood and some large rocks. As for fake plants, the only ones that looks nice and realistic in my opion are the the tall, skinny ones like camboba and such. But your pacus will probably constantly uproot it.

Don't know what you have for a filter now, but now that you've double your tank size and those fish are only going to get larger, you should add another large filter

do pet stores buy pacus? usually? i hate to get rid of them i just cant afford a larger tank right now unfort.

You can try to sell them to an lfs or Craigslist or here on MFK. Check your local aquarium to see if they'll adopt it.
