The Id tool in the stickies says bluegill. Its not quite the one I described in my other thread unfortunately but it does show some of the smae coloration. So the mystery panfish might be a really nice looking bluegill. Correct the Id if Im wrong. Currently eating flakes and freeze dried krill. Pics suck b/c my camera is broken and I had to borrow and auto everything piece of crap.

it almost resembles a crappy. maybe a hybrid?
no not a hybrid of crappie and bluegill, that something you will only see in labs. ( Iam not even sure if its plausible) I would have to say its just a good colored bluegill, maybe the fins just changed color because of its diet.

I'm kicking myself right now. I didn't even think of bluegill when you mentioned your red-finned sunfish. The 'gills up here don't get that coloration, but you have coppernose bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus mystacalis) down there, which can have reddish coloration.

The dark spot in the back of the dorsal fin is very typical of bluegill, though very small fish (less than 2") don't always have it. If you see that spot you can be pretty sure you either have a bluegill or a green.
