Definitely a gator gar. Like BIG-G since it's been some months...use some feeders. Been too long. I'm sure adults can go without a while but not young fish.

Would advise guppies instead. Rosy red and goldfish have low in nutrients and thiaminase. But quarantine all feeders with salt and prazi/MB. Safest way.

How's ur water parameters by the way?
I never really had to check my water parameters for any of my favorite fish and i dont really know how to do that but, i know how to keep my water good as when i was introduced to the hobby i had my share of trials and errors, so what i usually do is put some aquarium salt in it and then add ani-chlorine, anti fungus if needed, triple black water and vitamins. And then the water is acceptable for any fish that i had or have they did not have any issues with the water quality. Any way i am will to learn about parameters and how to check it.

Even though you add things without a test you really don't know what it's doing to your water. A basic kit can be had fairly cheap.
You should be testing Ph, Ammonia , nitrites, and nitrates.
You should also read up on the nitrogen cycle of an aquarium. It's good basic knowledge that every aquarium owner should understand.

The kits come with detailed instructions on how to test you water parameters.

If its wild caught which it probably is it might just be having a hard time to adjust. Prehistoric fish have strong instincts, they dont always adapt. Feed feeders, shrimp, or fish filets.

What was it previous diet? If it was different, may you need other fish to teach it recognize that what you are giving is food

At least that is how i got my spotted gar off feeders and now eats hikari sticks and prawn meat

I think i will change the diet my way.. Which is the cruelest way for me. I will starve it for two days or so then try shrimp and then again change to sticks.
