+1 he probably thought he caught the female but actually caught the male, fish stress out when trying to catch them and change their colors around so it can be kind of confusing when looking down into the tank trying to catch a specific one if you have multiples of the same species.... i seriously think he accidentally gave you the male and he has the female still in his tank and he just doesnt know what hes talking about...i have seen pics of males with spangles but no blotching on the lower part of the gill plate but i have NEVER seen a female that had absolutely NO spangling at all on her lower gill
