I've had my Flame Angel Quarantined for a week now. A day after I purchased him he showed signs of ick but a few days later it was gone. Now, over the last few days his fins have deteriorated and this morning one of his eyes is fogged over. Also, he doesn't stop swimming towards the water return from the filter. Any suggestions?

just had this problem with my hippo tang test your water make sure its good if it is just let it ride out it ends up going away on its own (or atleast mine did) but if it does end up gettin worse in a couple days id deff treat it with some meds

Yeah I'm going to guess this was caught with Cyanide.......hopefully he pulls through. Good luck

may i ask,
did you buy this fish at petco?

I work at Petco, why did you ask if it was from us? No offense taken, I would never buy a fish from us or Petsmart. I was just wondering if you knew something about the way we caught fish that I don't.

Our tanks are pretty much worthless, tbh. Yet we always have the same regulars in buying fish that end up dying. :screwy:

cyanide is horse s***. flame angels in general are hard to get to except change.

My local petco has 1.011 saline water to help prevent external parasitic diseases, and if your not told about this, then dumping that fish into full saline water will cause similar conditions, 99% of the time, amounting to death.

I like to take my refractometer with me and test the SG. When getting them home, i drip acclimate for about 2-3 hours depending on the fish being acclimated, and whatever the SG readings were, will determine how many drips per second.

It would really help if you can get a clear still picture of him so that we can see the body more clearly.
Fins are frayed and patches of white are present, and left eye is severely clouded. This can be a number of things is you want the honest truth.
For now I would continute the full regimen of Melafix and also start a dose of Pimafix as the two work great together and address different symptoms harmoniously.
If Ich is an additional factor, a separate med will be needed, however a cocktail of those two until you can provide a clear still image should help with the fungal infection present, and attack secondary bacterial infections. Don't assume it was harmed by chemical collection - these diseases are the most common and easily contracted and are seen in about 75% of all fish sold through mass suppliers (Petco, Petsmart, WalMart, etc., etc., etc.) Mainly this is because most of them have no idea what they are doing, don't have the time/resources/space/give a dam to QT new arrivals, or have looped systems where disease spreads like snot on a playground. Swimming still seems within normal range and weight looks healthy, so you are not in the "OMG!" Red Zone quite yet.
Once you provide a pic, I can make a more definite assessment as to whether you are dealing with Ich as well, so please do so soon.
