:WHOA: your male is amazing!

How long did it take for him to get that big?
How long did it take for them to start breeding?

The guy did say they were f2 so im guessing you have f1?

thanks!

He was a little bigger than yours when i bought them, and they were already a breeding pair. I've had them a little less than a year now i guess, and they tried to breed the night I brought them home. It didn't work, and I guess it was about a month later they first bred successfully.

My pair are F1. I got them from dogofwar and that beast he posted is wild caught from lago nicaraugra.

I could be mistaken, but for most archocentrus type cichlids, they reach breeding maturity around 3".

If I'm not mistaken dogofwars flier (the progenitor) won "best cichlasoma over 6" at aquafest this year.

Wow Matt your fish is amazing!

Thanks for the info diogenes,

So they pair off pretty early huh? Well I have seen some tail slapping but nothing concrete. they are quickly becoming more used to me in the last 2 days. They are now starting to eat from the surface which makes feeding them so much easier. I'm going to introduce sprinula and mysis shrimp to thier diet soon here. They are out most of the time and are getting a little edgy with eachother but nothing serious. But they are showing those pesky mollies who's boss.

Why aren't these fish more popular? They definatly are one of the best looking members of the convcit family. Plus they have the coolest breeding behavior.

A good question. I've been wanting to get my hands on some of these guys for a while as well, but I can only order them in, and I'm not about to do that while its -30 degrees outside.

Great looking fish.

I have yet to see a bad looking flier. Bill your's looks great!

Mine really aren't that shy anymore. They are at the front of the tank all the time. If I make suden movements near the glass everyone flees though but for the most part they are out and about. The reason why i baught the mollies is so the fliers would come out more. I have seen alot of people use large livebearers to bring out thier fish like fliers, HRP, Nics, and firemouths. Fish like swordtails, mollies and amec splendens which are all very durable and share the same habitat. My mollies are pretty aggressive and provide a "challenge" to my fliers.

i keep mine with a pair of ameca splendens and a BN pleco. Used to have platy's but they get beat up when they breed.

I have heard great things about ameca splendens. Apparently they can really hold thier own. But I like the huge sail of the sailfin mollies. The mollies can hold thier own too... well... so far
