Hey all, I've been lurking in the gar forum for a while, and thinking about getting one for a while.

Well, I finally took the plunge today. I got a 12" florida gar from the LFS. He's in my 125g tank with an indo dat (4.5"), venezuelan pike (7"), pair of peacock bass (6" and 7"), and a red bay snook (~7") that I got today as well.

He/she's settled in real well, and everyone is getting along great. I have to say, he's only been in the tank for about 8 hours, but he's already one of my favorite fish. I can't believe I waited this long to get one.

Here's some pics to show him off. What do you think?

Extremely beautiful fish man

Yes, the Gar will become your favorite fish and you will soon see that no other fish really matter. They are a hardy durable fish that will start to learn his surroundings and will become more inept to you. :headbang2

Provide more pics if you can.

couldn't agree more. bare bottom tanks are just so :headshake:barf:

very good looking pc of driftwood, and unique looking florida gar! don't agree with some of the tankmates, but otherwise looks good!

Thanks. I plan on putting in either some black sand, or some very dark brown gravel. I hate the look of barebottom tanks as well, I just haven't gotten around to getting the substrate yet.

I also plan on upgrading to a 220g tank (or larger) in the next year or so, depending on how soon I find a good deal on one. If I can't get a good deal on a glass tank, I'm going to try my hand at building a large plywood tank (probably 6'x3'x2'). Eventually, I'm hoping to build something along the lines of 8'x4'x4' or so.

very nice florida. some of the tank mates are a no no but nice
