Yeah. I buy a big bag full of about 8 fillets and just grab one out of the freezer and put it in a sandwich bag in the fridge a day before I feed it. When I first tried this I cut a long strip and wiggled it around and he grabbed it. The next feed he would follow it down to the bottom of the tank but wouldn't grab it and the following day he grabbed a bunch.
Now he grabs anything even sinking pellets but he usually chews on it and spits it out.
7 days won't kill your gar but it shouldn't take that long, he'll eat.
