new flower female

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
6 is fine for PH flowers as long as it doesnt crash. Just keep attempting live foods. Ghost shrimp and Blackworms and keep it as stress free as possible.

I have the tank 3/4 covered with towels so she should be OK. I tried to get live black worms but did not have any luck I do have some frozen worms but I don't think know own if she will go for it.
My test kit is getting old I am going to buy a new one tomorrow

I purchased a flower a few months back so here goes my experiences so far.

She wouldnt eat for the first few days but once she did start I couldnt get my hand to the bottom to drop off the blackworms before she attacked the straight out of my hand. This lasted for about 3 or 4 weeks. I believe I had some sort of mini crash because the flower and a new pup both stopped eating simultaneously. It took about another 4 weeks for her to eat again. I offered anything and everything, dosed with Prazi then eventually dosed wth NFP Nitrofuracin Green Powder. A couple days after the nitro dose she took black worms.

Fast forward a few weeks later she is eating only black worms stll and not all that aggresively. I currrently have her in a 225 with a runt of a mantilla pup (5 months old and maybe 4 inches) with a 50g sump and I have to change the water every 2-3 days about 30-40% otherwise she will stop eating again. I regularly check my levels and although I don't see spikes in anything she still likes fresh water.

Ray is about 10" and came from John Raymond.

Forgot to add, when mine would not eat and was really stressed she would fade out white. and for PH I run regular city water around 7 and use no buffers. The issue with buffers for PH is it will be more difficult to maintain and do waterchanges, and almost impossible if your running a drip unless you set up a buffer drip to go along with it..

By the sounds of it I think I'm just stressing out more then the ray is haha. I will keep everyone updated on how she is doing

Just keep your eye on it and keep up the maintenance, offer live foods regularly and hopefully you will be fine. I've seen and know of very good ray keepers who never had any luck getting them to eat and eventually lost them.

I hope that's not the case I have noticed a few shrimp go missing so far it's a good start. New test kit today amonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 30 so I threw another filter on with plants and cycled media in water change as well. Ph was 6 and tested twice one around 430 and again at 1030

Keep everything Consistent. Just wait, don't risk stress. It needs to feel comfortable and secure.
