I have had luck with hex by feeding wax worms. Very soft and easy to digest. And please do not put down a fish by putting it in the freezer. While ice fishing I have seen bluegill sit on top of the ice for 30 minutes and swim away when they get back into the hole.

I have a flowerhorn with the same thing going on and all I have been able to get him to take for the past 3 weeks is wax worms as well. I have tried treating him with jungle but i am not getting results. Maybe i will try a high dose of epsom.
mine DID have the same problem but i added a load of salt and changed the water 3 times in one week and it worked!!!
just clean the tank, add 1 table spoon for every 5 gallons
after 2 days do the same but 1.5 tablespoons every 5 gallons
after 3 days do the same but 1 tablespoon every 5 gallons
again two weeks laer, no salt.
