I was just down at my lfs (aquatic gardens) in Saginaw MI. They are getting the new Fluval G in. I guess they are only letting 300 stores in the U.S. carry them. If you haven't seen them you should check out their little trailer on them. It's pretty high tech. So if you are in MI give them a call and get on the waiting list. I think they come out Nov. 1.

THere are a few threads on that filters. Its a POS for the money IMHO

I am not sold on the whole micron filtration, this means you have to use their filter and replace it, costly on top of an already costly filter. I run a Canister filter and I use filter pads, that I can take out and clean, even using the micron filter pads I can take it out and clean it.

Several months back I posted a thread on getting 1 micron cleaning using a 3 stage filter that stepped down from 10 to 5 to 1 microns. All this using just 3 normal 10" filter housing plus the appropriate filters. This system could have been built for 30 bucks, and you could get a 40 pack of filters from eBay for 40 bucks that's enough for you to change filters every 5 weeks. So 70 bucks got you the filter and close to a years supply of replacement filters. Then only cost 40 bucks a year after that, I promise you the Hagen micron filters will cost far more.

As far as the bypass free my system would also be bypass free, bypass free is only important in mechanical filtration. Also the temperature monitor? you can buy a digital monitor for 20 bucks from petsmart, or even spend a couple bucks more and get a nice wireless on.

And unless your running SW the salinity meter is pointless. You could spend the money and get a nice Ehiem Pro3 or Pro3E, or a Emiem with built in heater.

I'm sorry, I just like simple. It looks like a nice filter and it looks good to. I have tried the whole "do it yourself" approach and I hate the look of it and I hate the mess it creates. I'm not saying everybody's filters look that way but on one of my tanks is an open stand and the way it looks goes a long way for me. Plus you don't have to drag the whole filter from underneath your tank to clean it. As long as it does a good job filtering I'll be happy.

I see it this way right now. Everyone will bash on the product up until people have used and reviewed. until then how can it be a POS or crappy. a little pricey i know but lets wait until it does have an official review.

I can see the value of the uP controlled system for the top end aquarists, particularly with planted tanks to proxy monitor your carbonate hardness through conductivity. This is obvioulsy for the top end hobbist as no one lese will drop $490-$570 on a filter.

If you have a situation where you have the filter visible this one is a lot easier on the eyes than any of the other canisters. This will blend with the decor of a many homes, a pro3 would be an eye-sore in most homes.

Joey47 hit it right on the head. No one has one so you can't really judge the pros and cons.

Cartridge design and electronics = Bad. Electronics raise the price more than just buying the single meters. Cartridge design makes Hagen money, end of story
