Okay, i think i just did the stupidest thing ever... WOW! I just recently bought a used fx5. Now before filtrating my tank, I tried my best to wash it thoroughly. When I thought it was and turned it on in my tank......a cloud of brown particles (probably the previous tank's fish waste) covered my entire tank! I freaking panic and did a water test but the water was about 31 ppm, around 7 pH, but should I be worried? plus when I do a water change tomorrow in the afternoon and turn off my fx5, is it going to do the same crap when i turn it back on? What should I do before turning it on after the wc? should i run it in the tub for a bit? Please any advice from fx5 owners will be EXTREMELY HELPFUL! PLEASE AND THANKS IN ADVANCE! F1 or ballinoutofcontrol, I need your help ASAP!

It'll be fine, shouldn't affect ur fish! Next time clean out the hoses with a snake brush. Welcome to the fx5 club!

Your fine. That will happen every time you clean the filter, particles from the hoses. I have a good system to prevent this: I have an extra valve and output hose, after serviceing I connect it and put ot into a 5 gal bucket, open the valves and let the filter flow into the bucket, @ same time a python is sucking the water from the bucket. Then plug it in run a few gal thru it to clear debris, when water runs clear and has no yellow tint then I connect it back to the tank output.

I thoroughly wash the fx5 internals once again and finished a wc. I turned the fx5 on again and this time...no brown particles! JUST PURE CLEAN WATER! Beautiful sight to see...I love my new fx5!

Should you be worried? Depends, 31 ppm of what?

Try replacing the hoses with smooth clear vinyl tubing. Stays cleaner and seems to flow better. I also personally like using my fx5 with a spray bar better than that silly two directional output that it comes with.

Yea u get maybe 5-10gph more with non ribbed hoses, calculations compliments of another member, still worth it and easier to clean. As for the directional output it ain't bad at all, does a good job imo. Spray bar slows down gph but has its advantages given the setup. Guess it comes down to preference.
