yea in my fx5 i just have ceramic rings (biological), i use HOBs for mechanical and chemical

Eheim's have a bypass system that makes polishing pads possible, but canister filters are really best at biological filtration - use HOB's for chemical or just dump them in the tank in a filter bag next to the output.
