I picked up an FX5 the other day for my 135gal tank. Paid $318 total, was on sale from $400 total. any way just thought i'd ask if this will be enough for this tank. in it are 2 uaru(2.5 inches), 6 gold severums(4-5 inches) and 11 green severums(1-1.5 inches.) If i were to keep all these fish in the tank untill adult hood, could this filter and tank support them all or is that too much? If too much, how many of them could i keep? i was hoping to keep at least the 2 uaru, 4 gold sevs and 4 green sevs. thanks.

yup that filter is good. they are rated for 400 gallon tanks. but there is never enough filtration.

Next time you are going to buy a new one, check out ebay. You might be able to save some money.

ya, i did check out ebay, and i would have saved around $100, and since im in canada, i would have saved a little more(canadian dollar worth something now, woo hoo!). but i wanted to get it from my LFS because if something happens to this one, they will replace it the same day. they're really good to me like that, so i wanted to remain loyal to them just in case something happens.

I have 2 FX 5's.I fill all baskets with bio material.(pot scrubbers and rings)Then run an AC 110 for strictly mechanical.
your 2,4 and 4 idea is probably the way to go once they
grow to adulthood.
good luck:)

I have 3 FX5's and 6 404's I like Fluval best filter for the price.

Not the best filter over all but its easier to start out and buy more if one dies. I havent had a problem with mine and its been 4 years. I got one off E-bay and 2 out of the store.

I just purchased a Fluval FX5 off of Ebay last week, $159 + $80 shipping to Toronto so I payed $239. Always check out Ebay first, I am going to be running it on a 300 gallon Saltwater holding pond, along with a bunch of other filteration so hopefully it helps out a bit.

the fx5 will do the job but i would recomend that you run a couple of HOB filters with it.

in my 125 i have 1 red shoulder sev, 1 green sev and 6 uaru (and a coulpe earth eaters). filtering the tank is 1 fx5, 1xp3, and 2 emperor 400.

i have about the same fish load you are talking about and my filtration is good so you may want to look at getting some HOB.

With the FX5, 3 Baskets dedicated to Bio and 1 for mechanical is best. Or as someoen mentioned earlier, ALL bio plus a mech only HOB. I doubt you could keep all those fish to adulthood. Might want to seel some sev's at the 4-5" mark.
