I'm so jealous. beautiful gars. is darkening of colours a certain sign / symptom of something being wrong ?

thanks:) yeah it means that they're stressed, but they're their usual gold right now.

Please, I can throw my gar in my toilet and take a big dump and he still would live. LOL. I know what your saying but gars have to be one of the toughest fish on the planet. They can live in cold/warm water and can live in very very low oxygenated/toxic water levels. I've had a few gars jump out of my tanks only to find them the next morning almost completely dry and I have put them back in the tank and completely revived them and made complete recoveries. It take alot to kill a gar, a little ammonia spike aint going to even phase them.

wow, you sure know a lot about gars! thanks for informing me as to how durable they can be. have you ever kept Cuban gars before? if so, for how long?--

:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:
how are you trying to impress?
everybody has a point here.
1 cuban are extremely sensitive. even i know that and ive never kept them
2 i dare you to try half of that crap. you would kill those gars so fregin fast.

please, while it is important for people to state thier opinion, when you say crap like this some people will believe this crap and wont give any gars they have the proper care. These are beautiful and majestic creatures and they deserve our respect.
Do us all a favor and please think about what you type before you type it.

Gee your really a very enlightened individual with so much knowledge and useful content to offer. Thanks for offering up this steaming pile of Fly attractant :headbang2It is just awesome.....

Man you guys need to rub one off. I was just playin. But yes I know the Cubans are a little more sensitive but in general all gars are very hardy. Like I said I had several completely dry to the touch and they made it. If something were to go wrong with the tank, the gars in the tank would be the last to die hands down.

hey man were not asking for much here
Just no "throw them in a toilet and take a dump on them crap"
thats just dumb and desrespectful to the gars, so plz dont say
all we ask

i think you just need to think a bit more before posting, trust me, makes for much cleaner threads :)

i know when someone is joking about putting fishes in toilets, but the rest of your information in your post was broad generalizing at best, and specifically incorrect for the most part.

as for your current post...
Cubans aren't just "a little more sensitive", they are quite a bit more sensitive. and i don't even think you realize what they are sensitive to, so feel free to go back and read up on them before commenting on that species again.

how many trials have you run to see if a gar would be the last fish to die "hands down"? do you know which species are more tolerant of which conditions? which age groups and sizes? gar are quite durable fishes, but your gross exaggerations are flawed.

this isn't an issue of any of us being uptight, it's just a response to moronic posts. we can all have some fun with posting, but try to keep the completely stupid stuff in the lounge (or at least out of the gar forum). perhaps you should look into "rubbing one off" instead of posting next time and save us all the annoyance of reading randomized, inaccurate crap--

that true that people that are going to post pointless crap dont need to post at all. and if they do they need to think about what they post before they post.

So even after the first one that you had "completely dry to the touch" from jumping tank you still did not get some lightbulb going off in that head of yours saying "Well gee.. maybe I should cover the tank and secure the animal"..

Brilliant husbandry technique. I'll just have to try that one. Thanks again for such wonderful advice and observations from your clearly successful and knowledgeable attempts at keeping these fish..
