New Gar Quiz (and more photos)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hey everyone, sorry for the delay...was at a field class over the weekend. i gotta head out again soon, so this will be brief:

thanks to everyone for guessing, so very good answers! here are the correct ID's starting with the top left, and going clockwise (not including the sets of fins on the right top and bottom edges) :

-alligator gar
-tropical gar
-tropical gar
-spotted gar (very bottom center)
-Cuban gar (roughly centered)
-longnose gar

outer edges: top right - Cuban gar, bottom right, shortnose gar

the closest correct answer was neil, aka city of evil...only the specification between Florida/spotted was missing...oh yeah, that and the whole having trouble with right and left ;)

nice job, we'll see what we can do for the next one!--
--solomon

ps-- and yes, kara, there are now 6 species in that tank...actually a much higher species richness than Gar-Den II!--

Do I get points for getting this much right?? lol xander was actually right since I think he was agreeing with michael, except he said spotted instead of croc. I also think you should tell us when someone is right on with it, b/c I keep second guessing myself, thinking no one is right! Now all you need is a proven Florida to finish the collection!

wow.. thats pretty kool that i got closest answer. i would have figured jordan and kara would have gotten it before me. i still think its funny that i got my left and right mixed up. lol

I really think we should do one where we have to pm our answers to you, and then when you have enough, you should post everyone's answers so we know who really gets it...then there aren't going to be parrots just copying what everyone else says...of course, not sure if you feel like taking the time to do all that, but that would be interesting to see everyone's different answers and they have to be honest with what they think at that point....

not a bad idea, perhaps sometime in the future when i get the time to handle that :)

jordan - i already have a Florida, and up until a couple weeks ago had a Florida with locality info (fish was 5 years old) before it mysteriously jumped out of the tank...i still have it, although it's in the freezer :irked: so collection still remains intact...just not all in the same tank at this point--

Was that the fish that jumped out back when we got your Poly's from you? That's a major bummer!

I think the PM idea is a great one as well...as long as you are willing to take the time. It would certainly show who really knows their gar id's.
