from what I know of gars ( new to them myself) and Arrowanas.. Jars are the most aggressive usually. and known to destroy anyother tankmates as they reach about 12".. as for gar tank mates, I keep 3 Fire eels, and a Royal pleco(dull eye) with my gar. Not so much as a tish of aggro so far.
