Even with video I think the simplest answer is likely the correct but we will certainly know more in time. ReGardless it is a very unusual and interesting one. Just goes to show there are some interesting Gar out there.

And somehow we seem to end up with them :P

agreed, haha!--

follow-up video with more footage of the odd-looking gar. i shot this to show Richard at our last meeting. as you can see, particularly with the shortnose gar above for direct comparison (in the video), there are several traits that match up, and others that are just weird.

the most obvious/simplest explanation is that this is just a strangely patterned SNG, which is likely the case...still, not everything adds up, and we're going to run the tissues no matter what. the yellow blotches that you can kind of make out along the flank (they also show up in some of the photos and first video) are actual blotches, not reflections from the substrate.

enjoy, and we welcome any further observations (upper part of caudal fin is regenerating after "initiation" from the croc II - hence the fish was moved) --

further convinced it's either a lng/florida x or lng. snout length and width look pretty different compared to your other SNG. patterning I know isn't such a huge thing, but thats a very big pattern difference. no just the amount but type of markings. It could def be from a Population seperated...but that seems more improbable.

reguardless thats a very nice fish.
