I am now up to 3 gars. My silver aro was agressive yesterday towards my big florida gar so out it went along with my RTCxTSN back to the LFS. I came home with a beautiful 7.5 inch spotted gar. He'll go with my big 13 inch Florida Gar and a 11 inch spotted gar. I am now thinking about trying to get 5 of the 7 gars... (since I cant house a gator gar or a longnose in my 180).

I think you might want to stop from now on until you get a much larger tank if you only have a 180G, and Cuban gar grow to about the same size as longnose!

one problem with getting 5/7/0, there is a 99% chance you only have 1/7/0 atm.

I can tell they are definitly different kinds of Gar I'll see if I can post pictures tonight to get them ID'd once and for all... btw I thought the sticky said 180 Gal was servicable for a cuban?

What are you basing them being different species on? The dimensions of the 180 will determine if a cuban would work in it or not. Wider tanks are better.

The dimensions are 72"x30"x24"

I am basing them as being different species on the fact that they have much different patterns and colors and both spotteds have similar patterns on the top of the head which the florida gar does not. Also they tried to sell me the Florida gar as a Gator gar but I knew better from comparing it to the others labled as such posted in the ID sticky. Also the Florida Gar has put on much more girth then the spotted gar but the larger spotted has aboutthe same length. I have seen that they're colors and patterns come out much more vibrantly after feeding them on foodsticks and silver sides once I got them off live.

That tank would work for a while with a cuban, some will outgrow that tank though. That is also a 220 not a 180.

Still sounds like all the gars are floridas. They are very variable in pattern.

Hmm... That'd really suck. If they were. Ill try and show you some pictures later... are they're some angles that are more showing/helpful than others btw??

But Ummm this is a great day. My LFS store owner sold it to me as a 180..But I just re-measured it and its definitly 72x30x24!

Pictures aren't really going to help any of us with an ID other if Solomon and/or Richard see the pictures. Locality info is a big help, too.

Good deal on the 180 gallon turning out to be a 220 gallon; that will work for most adult gars besides alligator gars and large Cuban gars, tropical gars, and longnose gars.

It can possibly help with some pics to id but unless sol or richard poke in we cant guarantee a correct id.
