Get rid of the cage carpet, its a bacteria breeding ground, no matter how much you clean it. It is also foreign to the animal, the whole point of substrate is for the animal to USE it, which yours cannot. Try cypress mulch or Eco-Earth.

Good luck! Hes got some fattening up to do! :)

Key word: Caresheets. Not the best place for info. Sure, theyll ive on it. If you want them to live rather than thrive, thats your choice. If you want to hear my caresheet philosophy, prepare to read a 359-page novel.

I did not shoot down the internet. I shot down caresheets. Caresheets are *typically* written by someone who beleives they have experience, but kept the animal alive for a month. Caresheets should only be written by keepers who routinely BREED their animals have have over 5 years of experience. Usually its just 'Petco Joe' who writes them.

If you need a place to research reptiles, kingsnake.com is a great resource. Also pangeareptile.com has a gecko forum, and many members keep pictus.

Research does not have to be just caresheets, my friend. The best form of learning husbandry besides keeping itself is reading day-to-day accounts of keepers. Thats the beauty of a forum. You can also try books, but be careful. Most are outdated and dangerously inaccurate. If I had a specific book to suggest to you, I would. Just my only suggestion was to change your subtrate and fatten him up is all, dont take it in offense. I like to be brutally honest, and some people think it 'disrespects' their husbandry. I always have the animals best interests in mind, not the keeper. Good luck with your gecko!

Ryan, congrats on your new Ground Gecko! He looks like a cool little fella. I'm sure you'll fatten him up in no time.

Yeah I used reptile carpet stuff it's bad news. After awhile it just stinks of urine the whole time. Even with bleach solution and THOROUGH cleaning. I would go with something like tile or linoleum, have it cut to size, get a couple pieces and bam.

It got to do with who writes them. I would be careful of reading up on breeders' day to day accounts as well. You know how many boid breeders out there that keep their full-grown adults only in small tubs that is literally only 16" by 8". Even then, most of the breeders that are not directly involved in the hobby out there are only concern about breeding them and not about the people that keep them as a hobby. All you need is a couple of famous names, and it should be good to go.

Really, if the person have a good reputation, then they are worthwhile reading about it. The problem is that I don't think any of us know a reputable Panther Gecko keeper.

Anyway, hope you will fatten up that little guy. They are really amazing.
