Just wondering if its quite common for 2 to 3 inch Giraffes to hide all day and only come out in the dark?

Assuming once it grows a bit it will come out of its shell?

They grow far more personable with age/size...tank mates could be keeping him in the woodwork also.

Mine wasn't quite that small when I got it but it hardly ever hid,in fact it was always moving around looking for food to suck up from the substrate.

When I originally got mine as a baby he was pretty timid at first. He was kept with a variety of monsters and eventually became very outgoing. You'll enjoy him.

Oh perfect! He has come around a bit more then the first week, he is in with a group of juvie Frontosa.

They get more active with age, it should be plenty active by 8" or so.

When it is 2', some report you may get (just a chance) more than you bargained for. They are overzealous feeders and plow through all to get to food.

I've had several but never longer for them to exceed 10". They were shy when small but very outgoing and personable, not hiding when larger.

When comfortable (completely stress-free), mine would not hide even at 4".
