New Giraffe Cat

Just got a Auchenoglanis sp. Buche on Saturday. He is 2" with a awesome pattern. Seem to want to hide but still ventures out in search of food. Does anyone know how big these get? Can't find any real good info when I Google it.

Someone on Planet Catfish did a log on the growth of one. It topped out at 12".

How are you certain it is a larger one?
 
The 'bouche' variety, said to be from from Guinea do get very large, I raised a pair to around 15" and sold them, the next owner sold them again a couple of years later when they grew past 24"…
Their markings are distinct and arguably the most striking of the auchenoglanis species, here's a pic of one of the pair…

Not certain but IME with fish is they do not grow over an inch a month unless they are big fish when adults!
 
I owned a huge one a few years ago, like 13"+...

It was very friendly with my large datnoids, but it was very food aggressive!

Grow yours out, and I am sure it won't be timid as it age.

I regret of giving it to my lfs for free, but it was simply getting too big at the time. It's a fun fish to own, very outgoing and energetic, unlike my timid vulture catfish now! >.<"

Wow he looks awesome!!! Yes already loving mine! He will be going in the 400g with some Cichla!!!

I haven't seen a report of anyone who received one of the Auchenoglanis "Volta' cats ending up with a giant. Even the one on PC marked .cf occidentalis seems to max out at a foot according to reports here. I am starting to wonder if more of the smaller sized giraffes are replacing occidentalis and wittei on the market as collectors have to gone farther away from the traditional areas to get a hold of them.

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the info. I have to mention that I had two definitely-auchenoglanis-looking in shape but rather drab in color g-cats at ~4". In ~2 years they showed ~zero growth. If there was one, it was insignificant. I've never known what to make of it. I've failed to keep these longer too.
