New Glass 650 gal / 900 gal. system for Stingrays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the recommendations on the foam everyone. I am going to call back the friends and add the foam. Hopefully within the next few days/week. I do have steel crossbars on the stand so there should be some good bottom panel support as well. I'll keep you posted. Thanks.

I know what it's like to want to rush to get it filled and stocked, but I think you'll regret it if you cut corners.

What type of heaters are you using?

Looking forward to seeing your progress. Looks really nice so far.

I am using 2, JBJ 1000 watt heaters with controls and 3 Jagers - trying to balance out heater/thermostat failures, space, quality, and temp control. The room is always around 68/70 with radiant heating in the floors under the 3 base tanks. Let me know if you have other suggestions.

Thanks for the foam suggestion too.

What about plywood? The foam is pointless without it - you should put 1" plywood under the foam while you've got it off the stand.

WOW what a tank! That thing is beast and I can't wait to watch the progress on your build. One thing I noticed is I don't see any lateral cross bracing on the stand. I'm by no means a structural engineer but I've seen it on other large metal stands.

Im also on the band wagon of foam and plywood. You will not even notice it when you fill up the tank. Everyone will be looking into the tank not at the foam/wood.

Thanks all...I will pick up some plywood as well. I do have cross bars across the top of the stand for structual support, but I'm sure the plywood/foam will give it a solid/even base.

(now I just need lifting help again!)

Thanks.

I'm confused, is the photo up top the 650 gal or the 900 gal ? I thought you were moving from a 650 to a 900. That tank is indeed a monster, very nice.

Curious how you got the tanks under the stand with all those vertical post.

If I was closer, I would help you out with the lift. I have a soft spot for peeps trying to move big tanks because I know what it's like to need help.

Since you'll be running 2,600 watts of heaters do you have access to two 15 or 20 Amp circuits or 1 30 Amp circuit? I have read that you don't want to load a breaker beyond 80% of it's rated capacity. So on a 15 amp circuit, you wouldn't want to run more than ~1500 watts, on a 20 amp circuit you wouldn't want more than ~2000 watts, and an a 30 Amp you wouldn't want to exceed ~3,000 watts. If you do, you risk tripping the breaker and that's never a good thing.

Do you know what your electrical rates are? I'm curious to see how this is going to affect your power bill. I'm thinking about heating my tank, although you are much better off than I am since your room temps (at 68 to 70) are much higher than mine (down to 55 in the winter).

If you haven't already bought bulkheads, I really like using schedule 80; they are much less prone to leaking than the standard variety...I think mostly because they have a beefier gasket. But make sure your holes are big enough to accommodate them, since they do require larger holes than standard bulkheads.

Good luck with the lift! Be safe man...that's a lot of weight!

sick!!!!! cant wait till u post pics with those amazing BDS in the tank!!!! hurry up!!!!
