Today I got my lil (L18) Gold Nugget in the mail from Snookn21. I live in Norther CA an Snookn ships out of FLorida. He made it here in one day i was shocked an excited at how fast it got here(so props to Snookn21)
This is my first fancy Pleco if any one has some advise or tips Id like to hear them. I will get some pics out asap but he is still very skiddish an hiding in caves

Have good water quality and keep his belly round very hard to keep alive. Another thinks snookin has always been good to me to fast shipping and resonable prices

gold nugget are the easiest pleco to keep and snook is fast like ups fast

gold nuggets are NOT easy plecos to keep. rarely do you see large specimens in the trade. will like meatier foods and sometimes fruits/veggies. they love good cover especially driftwood. be patient because they are real slow growers.

Have to agree with the 2 above who said gold nuggets are NOT that easy to keep alive especially while young. Larger individuals seem to be hardier in my experience. I would echo plecoking's sentiments about water and low nitrate/trite. Additionally, I would recommend well airated tank with some current from over filtration. Also, agree with Crispy's advice.

mine loves hiding under a log where the current is strongest, forgot to mention that. I've read current is not 100% necessary and mine does wander around the calmer areas from time to time, so I would give him either option and see what he likes. make sure the tank has a real good turnover rate and pristine water params. gold nuggets are easily bullied and small guys aren't as bulletproof as commons when it comes to other fishes aggression. I wouldn't keep them with anything rowdy or you'll never see him.

best of luck, they are sweet plecs!

PS, +1 for real good aeration.

Thanks everyone for the advise. He has lots of hiding spots an has taken to one cave in paticular. I also have a power head running with two air stones. I can only hope for the best for this lil guy.

i tried a GN last year but didn't have any luck, hopefully your's will be better off. i have heard that due to their intestinal tract they need to constantly be grazing which is why they are so hard to keep alive. make sure you keep fresh veggies and stuff in there until you get him eating other foods.
