I wish I had a pic of the common I caught fishing for shinners a while back, it was a 14 incher and I don't think it had barbels but if it did then obviously it wasn't a real monster

It was free and the guy that I got it from is no longer with us(no it isn't his own skull...) It's a memorial to him of sorts...

Besides it's BEAST!
:headbang2

hahaha now i need to get a skull for my tank...first i gotta find a few things...

They will eventually go into my friends pond, but only after I think it's ready for fish...He already killed 6 outa 8 original comets because of fungus.
What we often call fungus us usually actually bacterial. Has he checked the water parameters and is he working on getting it cycled? These ailments are rare in healthy ponds. Is he underfiltered of overstocked?

Shubunkins typically grow anywhere from 10" to 14" on average, so if you wanted to do a tank you're looking in the 300g plus since they are active fish.

Dude, that's awesome. I like the spots, esp. on the one in the second picture. This sounds like an awesome way to be 'buried.' I think I'll put it in my will now.

His wife was the one that found it, under a bunch of rocks that found their way into the pond...from her description it sounded like actual fungus growing under the rocks, white and stringy.

I just got off the phone and he hasn't refilled it yet after he returned from vacation. So no water = no parameters = I'm getting the 2 comets in the tote i brought back healthy...Good thing I built that monster filter!

I told him I would donate my cycled pond filter to the cause, as long as he used his original 'filter' for the water fall only. That was a pump with sponge prefilter and a 'T', one side to the falls the other to a fountain...No bio or mechanical other than the prefilter, the reason I think there was fungus growing, at the very least anaerobic bacteria.

I could do one, just not all three fish for long term...bummer...

So I really should not see any more growth out of these 3? They have to be about 9-10" now.

What is the suggested gallons for fish this big? Filtration issues aside. Besides the standard answer-a pond.

20g per fish. They have a lot of potential to me. I was just saying 8-10" is pretty much a good size already since that's the average length. I wonder if these shubs may still grow even bigger. I'd be impressed though.

I already am impressed, as these are bigger than I have ever seen a Shubunkin get, I have had 2 before, but the raccoon population stunted their growth...

So if I keep stocking at the current level they should be OK in the 90 for a while? Sweet-see above posts..

No, keep them that way. Don't add more.

No worries, down to one comet, my original brown comet, one of the shibunkins and 2 plecos. Delivering the other 3 goldys to my friends pond today or tomorrow and getting a juvenile bowfin for the tank!
