So i acquired a 17" or so yarelli a week ago. Since then i havent seen him eat at all. I feed at night when the moonlight are on. Its in a 1500 gal with other fish as well as 2 rays that are no longer interested in it and leave it be before they would bother him since its a new addition and they are curious. He is in good health and does move around. The tank has a ton of o2 being pumped in and has several pieces of dw to hide underneath or next to. My question is how long have any of you seen urs take before it ate. I am offering it cut fish mainly since the rest eat it as well along with pellets but mainly cut fish for meat. Any input would be great. Ty

Many fish can be finiky when moved and goonch are no exception. I have seen mine go a month when he was bitten badly by my vulture cat and moved tanks. Should find he starts feeding when he feels settled. Had he also moved from a tank with a darker bottom?
Yes it was but he wasnt in it for too long tho maybe a few weeks at best. He originally had him for sale then decided to keep it then a week or so later sold it to me. Ive keep all kinds just this is my first goonch so just curious on what others have encountered. Ty for ur info

... That what i was thinking too just curious on what others have encountered...my first goonch.

Will eat when ready. Will not starve himself/herself.
Hope so have seen other cats do the same but this being my first time keeping one wanted to ask for others personal experience.

Chicxulub Chicxulub has experience with bagarius. Hopefully he will chime in
I pm him on fb a week ago. I know Rob. Haven't heard back from him yet which is odd.

My last goonch i sold at 24" didn't eat for the new owner for about a month. My last one i sold at 26" didn't survive for a day or 2 in new owners tank. My experience is they take a little time to adjust and as yours is alive still its probably still adjusting. I would say make sure 02 levels are high etc but I know your setup its good. We speak on fb before a few times. Good luck dm if anything.

Ty brother i am thinking the same thing. The o2 is plenty and most likely it just needs some time. Sorry to hear about the big guy dieing i wish i had gotten him i would have loved a 26"er hopefully the other guy is still alive and thriving! It would have fit in nicely with the other fish but i am hopeful this guy will come around and start eating readily. He is active and moves around. Looks good visually dont see any damage or torn fins so he isnt getting bullied which is great esp with those two rays. Most def if i need any advice I'll dm u. Appreciate it!
