New goonch!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I could definitely use RO water! Why didn't I think of that? I have a 75 gal/day unit already for my saltwater. I thought I read a while back that using RO isn't that great for fish? Maybe it was for plants. I dunno. I've also read on here that some people use half RO and half tap. All I know is that I'll probably have to invest in a larger RO unit once they grow big enough to go in the 150 cuz it takes over an hour just to fill a 5g jug right now. I also need to replace the filter soon. Ahh I'm rambling. I'll check my pH tomorrow since the lights are off and pH drops at night. I don't use salt at all but I've been considering doing so since I mix my own saltwater for my reef so I have a constant supply of marine salt. I use prime for my conditioner.

Using 100% RO can be difficult cause you need to add back vitamins and minerals, but using like 1/2 RO should reduce the hardness, in theory, by 1/2 i would think ... i dont use RO, but if i had all the money in the world i would like to ... pretty sweet that you do salt as well as fresh ... been wanting to set up a saltwater tank, just dont have the money or time to invest at this point, but in the future i def would like to ... do you have pics in the saltwater section? I'd like to see

So my pH is at somewhere between 7.5-7.7. I'm really curious to know the params of their natural environment that way we can mimic them. I'm getting soo antsy right now! Goonch #2 is supposed to be arrive in less than an hour!!! Woohoo!!! FYI I ordered a teugelsi bichir as well. :)

I have not started a thread yet about my salt tanks but I totally will right after this. It'll be under the rock/coral/inverts section. You should totally start one! You seemed to have mastered the freshwater world by having my dream tank so salt would be a whole other challenge. If you have the space or money, it's better to start big but I started small. List quite a few things from simple mistakes but that happens and you learn.

She's here! Definitely looks nothing like my HLG. It looks an awful lot like a rutilis but maybe that's just cuz I'm hoping it is one. Here's a pic of it acclimating. I'll get some in tank shots after class today for a confirmed ID.

Don't need any more shots, that's a ruti.

I still want to see more though :p

EMERGENCY!!! It started completely spazzing out while it was acclimating then went belly up and stopped breathing!! I immediately picked it up and am currently holding it in front of the powerhead as I type. It's breathing again but keeps twitching and what appears to be hiccuping but it can't swim at all. What do I do?!?!

Sounds like temperature shock. IME not much you can do except what you're doing. I'd give it a 50/50 of making it.

Unfortunately I have to head off to class now. It seems to be doing a little better now. I hope it improves and is still alive by the time I'm back later in the day. I don't understand how this could've happened. I floated the bag for about 15 minutes then slow dripped it for only like 10 min before it started spazzing.
