New gravel fish afriad?

I had white gravel and my pleco and tetras wouldn't go near it. I figured it out and took it out and put in a dark green, and now they are fine. My pleco used to jump into the filter and stick on the area where the water comes out, but since I replaced the white gravel, he doesn't do it anymore.
 
Weird how a simple color causes chaos. Ill give it until tuesday to let the other fish mix it up some more, otherwise ill pick maybe 40% of the white rocks out. Plecos on the bottom right now, but hes waving his 4 fins like he is saying "hot lava dont touch!" I guess tan/peach/ or brown sand will be in their favor.
 
Just say no to white gravel, washes out fishes colors.
 
I actually found the white to make them look better. It kinda washed out the balas but everyone else looked great
