New Gravel No Good ?

So I bought some black gravel last nite package says RIGA Coloured Gravel Non toxic Long lasting, made in canada, distributed by A.P.A.F, Inc. Canada

The instructions on package say: before use, clean the gravel thoroughly in hot water not using any detergent or chemical. Stir gravel several times to eliminate impurities. Put the gravel by hand to a total depth of 6cm, Wait 24 hrs before putting any fish or any other product into the aquarium

I've been washing it for over a day now,I followed the instructions, used fish nets, strainers, buckets, and the water is still coming out grey and the rocks are starting to go white..........like 90% of the rocks

what the heck?
im kinda peeved about this right now, as now I cant work on my tank tonite got to wait until tomorrow to contact fish store.

anyone else had this? just a bad brand or batch?

sounds like a bad batch - the black paint is chipping off.

I use Estes Spectrastone Black Special gravel.

I have read of a few people also having problems with it chipping over time, but I have used it for the last few years no problems yet (touches wood).

i agree the paints coming off. try to get your money back and buy another batch somewhere else

So I just rinsed them like 10 times without movin them, water was clear and fine, so i gave them a stir and dumped some water into a cup from the bucket, looks like a gun metal grey.

There goin back that's for sure.

I call this morning, the owner is not in to give me a refund or exchange or anything. I have to wait until tomorrow. 5 day rock excursion by the time i get new rocks and ready for the tank.

Don't get me wrong he's a great guy (the owner) but I guess he took the day off, and his workers can't do returns I guess. Of course the only time I ever actually REALLY need him, he took the day off, but other than that, he's the most knowledgeable guy in town.....

It's just my luck........totally not his fault.

I hate stores where the authority is not properly delegated. if the manager is off, there should be someone on staff that day who has the authority to do returns.

that is bad customer service otherwise...
