here's a link to the sticky in the freshwater disease and illness that talks about salt baths also.

i also use melafix/pimafix, but just giving the heads up on the salt baths, especially if you don't quarantine, when first getting a fish.

i don't have a tank to quarantine in, i have a spair tank but thats it.

i didn't quarantine for a long time, but i have became really attached to some of my fish and figured i'd start. Plus i have the bad habit of finding used aquariums and fish every couple weeks, i'm addicted to them. honestly all i use is a bare 10gal with a sponge filter, i just leave the sponge filter in one of my main tanks behind a rock and when i need my quarantine tank i put the sponge filter in it and fill it with tank water out of one of the main tanks, before that i had a rubbermade tub. and nice gt by the way, i have a gold saum and one of my favs great personality.

I use a 10 gal quarantine/feeder tank(feeder guppies that I breed). Really cheap to start up and maintain. It may save you money in the long run, because you save money on meds. If I had to treat my 150 vs. a 10 I would be broke. Especially when one fish is sick why treat all of them. You can use anything though for temporary quarantine tank.(cooler, bucket) Make sure you have a heater, and airstone. Use water from your other tank so it is matured. You my get by with adding aquarium salt and keeping the tank 78-79 degrees.
