I've kept my GT with a L203 pleco and a Firemouth without any problems for about 3 months now.

This I know. people always jump to conclusions. He is in 20 because he is only 1"!
will have his own 75 when he gets bigger!
Dont mean to sound rude, but you guys should try asking the person if research has been done before you start scolding!!:irked: :irked: :irked: :irked:
I KNOW they get big I KNOW they get aggro, Why do you think I am asking advice?:screwy:
I trust experiance over something I read anytime!!!!

he only jumped to conclusions because you never mentioned that you knew all of those things in your initial post. had you included the information that the 20 was a growout and that a 75 would be provided then we could have started giving you better information much sooner.

anyway, in a 75 I'd be very careful about tankmates. the GT's I've kept haven't been overly aggressive but some can be. if I were going to try another cichlid with it I'd probalby try a gold severum. I've had success with severums and GT's together in the past though I didn't keep them to adulthood. I've seen a lot of people though posting pics of rather large GT's and sevs getting along pretty well. if you want something along the lines of bala sharks or tinfoil barbs, then I'd recommend you go with silver dollars instead. they have a similar look and are very fast but won't grow nearly as large as balas and tinfoils which will reach a foot each. :grinyes:

the only fish my GT's have ever had any problems with are other GT's and acaras, but they can be..well..terrors at times, i would only keep it with a fast fish, or another cichlid that can hold its own

a severum sounds like a good idea..

No problem, grasshopper!

I dont want to sound like a know-it-all though. Im sorry if thats how it seemed

No Problemo...I think the prudent way to respond to questions is WITH questions. ;)

Convicts, my lfs has small cons. 1 1/2"
Will look into the others, but will go with the Cons for now.
totally apreciate the feedback, Thank You All:)
one last question, what PH do GTs prefer? Want to make it as happy as possible.

just a thought tho...my GT chases around my 2 Sevs constantly and they are bigger than him. One gold and one green. The gold's fins are all tore up. In a 75 the less aggressive severum would not have much room to run from an aggressive GT. Then again ur GT could be pretty mellow, mine is an over-aggressive one at 7".

My 7" GT has always lived with a convict. I tried to add two 1" con's when the GT was about 4"s but the GTended up eating the pink cons.

The current con is about 3"s and protects its corner from the GT, has for the last year.

i did have some giant danios with my 8-9in GT and he never looked twice at them.

also a quick question, my GT is male and about 9in and is still fairly elongate and although he is the dominant fish in the tank he doesant have much of a nauchal hump. Can i expect him to become one of those nice high bodied GTs i see other people having.
