got a new gt recently it was the only light/white color finned one and the rest were orange. its about 3 inches. need help trying to figure out if its a male or female. i have another gt, and i always thought it was a boy til a few weeks ago it laid eggs. the last pic with the electric blue is a pic of my female gts pointy fin that i always thought was a males. hard to tell just by looking at the finnage. sorry for the crappy phone pics.

I would say male at this stage but I would grow it some more first. You cant tell from the dorsal fin.Females get long and pointy aswell.I have found the males scales are usually in a straighter line(horizontally)Females usually have darker colour with the side spot with a different pattern than males in this area.

Oh yeah! Don't be suprised if the white edging turns yellow or red at a later date. Its common in Gold Saums.

I agree with greenterra, I wasn't sure that my female was female until she laid eggs, I thought she was but stuff she did put me off. That last pic would have been a great pic is it wasn't for that other fish.

The great spotting on dorsal and caudal fins suggest male to me. S/he is still young but were I a betting man, I'd put money on it being male.

more pics of my gt
the orange edged fins gt is my female which i had for 2-3 months and is about 1 1/2 - 2 inches bigger then my new gt with white edges. so far the female gt chases the new gt around sometimes trying to bite it or thats what i believe its trying to do. hope the new one is a boy tho :)

In my experience, lighter fins compared to more vibrant tank mates indicates they may have been bullying him into not receiving as much food, as orange color is purely dietary. He does look good though, make him feel nice and secure :)

Yeah he looks like an uncolored gold saum, in other words he is the orange finned variety but hasnt colored up most likely because of the reasons nomad stated. But sweet fish and i think male!
