Hi everyone.

Im new to monster fish keeping but am totally hooked already. I have got my first polys now droped on really i got them off a fella my dad knows. His son seen them and bought them and then decided he doesnt want fish.

So i have a 4-5 inch senegal, 5 inch Endli, 4-5 inch delhezi and a 4-5 inch ornate.

I have been feeding them on frozen and live bloodworm. Any other suggestions?

They are the most amazing fish i have seen i love them.

Was also wondering if anybody knows where i can get some of the more rare or other varieties.

As soon as i can i will post up some pics.

Welcome to the addiction. Any worms or bugs that are pesticide-free. Regular earthworms or nightcrawlers, chopped until they can swallow them. If yours will eat off the surface(some will, some won't) gut loaded crickets. Hikari carnivore or massivore is available worldwide, I also feed HBH and New Life Spectrum but I don't know if they're available in the UK.

Check out Beblondie's Poly Primer in the stickies. It rocks, every new poly owner should read it. I still read it every now and then.

congrats but keep a eye on the endli..they grow fast and they just got a bigger appetite from what i see

Hi cheers everyone,

I currently have them in a 20 gallon i know that this is not big enough but it is only a short term thing plus its bigger then the tank the lad i got them off had them in. I will be upgrading to a 5x2x2ft in the next month or so.

Cheers about the food tips i'll pick up so different things try give them a varied diet.

I have read the poly primer is brilliant a big help.

I have read and heard a few things about the endli so have been keeping an eye on him. So far he just puts his head in the sand a lies there.

Pellets, Krills, Frogs, Mealworms are what I feed my bichirs

Hi stu welcome to the addiction that is polypterus, sounds like you have a good mix there, get that big tank asap as the endli and ornate will grow pretty quickly.
I feed mine massivore, sinking cichlid gold, mealworms, prawns, catfish pellets, well they eat most things I put in,and if you can get tilapia fillets from the local fishmonger, they like that too.
As for rare ones,we don't get a lot of choice over here compared to the guys in the us etc but try pier aquatics in wigan as they deal with oddballs,I guess you may find some laps and congicus somewhere if you keep looking and if you have a local maidenhead aquatics they should be able to get you some of the ansorgii/endli hybrids like I have.
Have a look on aquaristclassified too.
Hope this helps,oh and get those pics up.

Steve
