I just received my new Fluval E - 300 from ebay, today. I've installed it and it's a great piece of equiptment. It's actually the best heater I've ever had. It's a true SMART heater. No other heater manufacturer has a heating device that comes close to matching Fluval's SMART technology. It's a bit costly ($68 on ebay, including shipping).

Pros:
1)Digital display, that remains lit so you can always see the tank temp day or night.
2)Easy to adjust temp, since its digital.
3)Displays current temp at all times.
4)If the water temp drops below your settings, the screen will turn blue, if drops too far, it will flash blue. Same with the water temp getting too warm screen turns red, or flashes red
5)If their is not enough water flow near the heater, it will dispay "LF" meaning low flow.
6)Heater will cut off the power to the heating element if there is a malfunction or problem, but display a fashing error code.
7)Comes with a heater guard installed.
8)Mounting brackets allow for it to be install on the tank wall in a couple of ways.

I think this is the direction of all heaters to come . . .

i really like the way these heaters look and the function looks good. might pick up 2 of them. but first have to find the lowest price.

i use this heater and think that it is quite nice. i paid only $50 for mine from dr. fosters and smith.

I have a couple of these heaters... i like all of the features except it doesnt tell you when the heating coil is "on" usually a heater has a small light that lights up when its on, this one doesnt. Not a big deal though.

I like my Hydor In-line heater better though. But, for in-tank heaters, the fluval E series is a hard heater to beat.

Sounds a lit over priced. An Aqueon Submersible and a in tank thermometer works just as good and save 20 dollars. I am sure the fish won't mind if its .5 degrees cooler that what the heater is set to.

i have 4 E300 in my tank. there a nice bit of kit. the digital dial allows for all 4 to be set exsactly the same so one isnt working more then the others. the blue flashing dose my head in abit during waterchanges though but i can cope.

with the older style sometimes the dial was sightly off so if you set all 4 to 29c one might be off abit and have to work more then the others. the way to sort that problem is to turn all of them to max and use a seperate thermostat with them all linked to that ofcorse.

I have heard great things about the Fluval. Personally, I like the Hydor Theo on my small tanks.

same here.

Are there heaters out there with auto shut off abilities if the water gets too hot? I always wondered why a heater wouldn't have this feature built into it? I hear alot of stories about people losing their fish because of heater malfuncions...just curious..
