Potassium permanganate will kill any algae, bacteria, organics etc. You can soak your wood in a solution of that for a a few hours. I have used it for bacterial infections with discus and for sterilizing tanks, nets, newly found driftwood and other equipment. I would not put it in a tank with fish as it will kill all of your bacteria and you will have to re cycle the tank. But as far as disinfecting wood I like it.
