If you can take the fish back and wait until you get you 200 gallon and properly cycle it which will be much easier on you and the fish. If this is not possible you will have to do a fishin cycle. You will need to test your water several times a day and do water changes several times a day. Any time your ammonia or nitrites get above 0.25ppm a water change is needed and make sure to add conditonor to your water. If your readings are high bigger water changes are needed.

For example if your ammonia is reading 1ppm doing a 50 % water change will knock it down to 0.50ppm. Wait an hour and test again and if its 0.50ppm doing another 50% will knock it down to 0.25ppm.

So basically test your water several times a day a do the size of water changes according to your readings and the half rule. When doing a water change make sure to wait an hour before testing again.

thank you, ill keep this.

Thats your advise are you serious?
I would advise him to move the fish to an established tank but it is clear the op. wants to keep the fish, he has already said he will get a 200 gallon within 6 weeks time so i am just telling him what he can expect

Hey doing a 50% water change in a 10 gallon is extremely dangerous to your new BB growing especially if you are cycling. eventhough his example is right it is intended for larger tanks

Its no were near as dangerous as having a fish in a tank with lethal toxins in the water.

before i added the fishes. i didnt fill up the tank completely, left over 2.5 of a 10 GAL tank.
because i wanted to add bottled water sparingly to neutralize whatever toxins, to a small but significant level. thus water changing slowly with this approach.

If you are going to do this in a 10 gallon with these fish, not a good idea IMO, do 90% water changes daily,or get some used media from an established tank.
Doing less than 90% water changes won't allow enough clean water in to dilute the ammonia and nitrite IMO.Your only working with 10 gallons, not much water at all.

Well thats not going to really help at all doing it that way your not taking anything out your just adding to it and diluting it a little. You seriously need to take the fish back get the 200 gallon and properly cycle the tank before you get any fish.
