If I were you, I would just start googling fish by the look/behavior/color/whatever you want. For example, let's say you really want a tank full of blue fish. Google blue fresh water fish. Click images. See what comes up. Go from there. Everyone here will have a different opinion. You need to do a TON of homework before you dive into predators, so find what you like first, then ask questions.

yes i do understand where your coming from the big problem is ive done alot of researching and alot of the time i hit a dead end first was rays and then they are telling me there not good pets and all most always die well i know thats not true if you do enough nowing how they are you wont make mistakes and wont die

What type of fish do you like? Go with discus if you like vibrant and stunning colors. Not much of predators though.

Discus are awesome, but I wonder if they're a good starter fish. Maybe something more like rams would be a better choice if he likes pretty fish with a lot of personality. Or, for a low maintenance single fish with big behavior and aggression, you could go with a managuense or an oscar. They're big, pretty, inexpensive, and act like freaks, but aren't too hard to keep, so good for a beginner.

Could always go native too, youd be suprised how striking and unusual natives can be in the right setup, sometimes we forget to look in our own backyards

i have had tons of fish and tanks have 3 tanks know the 90 gallon have jaguar ciclids in there a 75 gallon with 2 oscars in there and take care of the 300 gallon with a red tailed cat fish and have had alot of others to be honest i went over to my friends house and they have a 120 gallon with alot of peacock ciclids in there i think like 15 or more with sand bottom and lots of rocks and i think i wanna go that way there very bright and colorful and was stuck looking at it for like a hour almost like salt water fish but not
