Hey MFKers, so hurricane sandy hit me pretty hard lost power for 9 days. Lost my beloved Oscar who I rised from a baby :/ so now thinking about rearranging the decor get sand substrate, any suggestions on what kind of cichlids that can live comfortably in a 55 gallon tank. Prefer a semi aggressive community.

Thanks for the input!!

No suggestions? I was thinking 5 convict 1firemouth and a group of colorful schooling fish what y'all think?

Welcome to MFK!!! I'm not really a fan of convicts, I've had them before, but, not really a fan. If you wind up with a breeding pair they will attack anything that comes near them. Fire mouths can be aggressive too but usually aren't but if that's what you like then do it that should be a fine stock list for a 55.

Sorry about your power, and fish lost.I lost a big trimac and more.55 could be good for salvini pair, panamensis, cutteri, sajica, blue acaras

Did not check parameters yet just added sand waiting for it to settle and waiting on new driftwood ::so excited:: waiting for a week before I test the water and then add fish gradually. I loved my Oscar but I'm lm excited for a more active community tank :)

if your gh allows i would suggest African also .they are a rewarding and entertaining species.I recently started a Tanganyika species tank but im blessed with extremely hard water where i am.
