New here need advice on what cichlids to get

I really think a Pair of Salvs, JD's,Acara, Asethero's Robertsoni, maybe 6 Geo's and a Sev or 2 is best for a 55

Doing a Mix of species in a 55 is to small, you open yourself up to big aggression issue down the road. I'm talking like 8 months or so. But still new need going through the work to have it blow up in your face.

A cool pair with dithers will definitely have a lot of cool things that come with it, such as fry, aggression, breeding colors.

Electric Blue jd and a few jade eyed cichlids would be nice!-)

I wouldn't do 5 convicts unless you want to heavily plant the tank(fake plants) so there's some separation cause there will be a lot of fighting, and make sure there all same sex, personally I'd go with a salvini, convict, Senegal bichir and some small catfish species like spotted Raphael

Sorry to here about your power and your loss. I would get a Cuban cichlid. They act like Oscars and are really sharp looking. They Get about 8 to 10 inches.

I think his real decision is going to be small community which leaves him with like 3-4 species with a stock of 5-6x fish. Or a Pair, Or a Solo Fish. Looking to see what he picks. I agree on the convicts in a 55, it will be lots of nippage.

1 salvini/ or jewel cichlid
3-4 clown loach or 2 Ram cichlids any kind of bottom dwelling fish
6-10 tetras or danios small schooling fish species suggestions welcome
