true, and pretty much my point, you never know. But I will say a breeding pair of cons is a bit different than and adult dempsey. Id act like it was going to work, but ready in case it doesn't. Breeding cons will take on most fish of any size.
When I introduced my Festae to the 300, the con and fire mouth harassed the festae so much that it lost all color, developed ick and had to be isolated and grown out for another 3 months before it was big enough to handle itself......in an 8' tank. She was 3.5" when I bought her and she almost got killed by 2 fish not much bigger than her. On paper she was supposed to be able to handle herself, but I discovered otherwise.
Now, most of the other fish give her plenty of space......except the con, who still challenges her from time to time. No chasing or liplocking, but they still flare up at each other.
