New here, need filter advice.

How many GPH is your pump? I know I suggested a pressurized filter earlier, but I think the 1/4hp sequence is around 4,000 gph. The linked filter suggests 5-600gph. You could still do it, just would require a little more plumbing for a bypass. The filter in the link looks fine, I would double check with the seller to make sure its actually a laguna filter with warranty from laguna, not a knock off. You may also want to get a larger filter. The manufactures suggested size claims are often overrated. If you are making changes it may be a good time to make some upgrades.

If you don't mind a little work I am with Dr. Joe on letting gravity do the work for you. How are you getting the water from your pond to the pump? There are lots of DIY filters that can be built for fairly inexpensively, work well, and hidden fairly easily.

Dr. Joe, thanks for the insight on the pressurized filters. I hadn't thought about how much more easily a pressurized filter would leak than a gravity flow. And I believe that the filter in the Ebay link is actually a knock-off and not built by Laguna.

mrunlucky07, I will have to check on the GPH rating on my particular pump. I bought it when Sequence first started building the small pumps and it had the lowest GPH flow at that time of any of their pumps. I don't think that it will pump anywhere near 4k GPH. The gravity flow has worked well for quite a while, I was just wondering if the pressurized filters had some benefits that I should consider.

The water from the pond is sucked up through an intake tube that has a screened intake and a back flow valve in it to prevent it from draining the pond.

Any links to plans for DIY gravity flow filters?

Take a look at this page for some ideas:

You may be able to hide a sand/gravel filter behind the pond. People seem to really like them as they do both mechanical and bio. and are easy to back flush. There are many options, just depends how much you want to get into.

Take a look at filtration on this link too. I haven't bought anything from him, but Steve has helped me along with my build. He has both filters and DIY kits.
