hey everyone my name is Richard and i wanted to ask a few questions about pirahnas so i looked this place over and it looked like everyone knew wat they were talking about =]

i curenntly own about 15 snakes, 2 redtail boas ( 8 foot and 4 foot) 4 ball pythons ( two three foot, one 5 foot, one two foot) two corn snakes( both same age and size which is just over 3 feet) two pueblan milk snakes ( same age and size, jsut over 3 feet) three rosy boas ( all 3 feet) 2 california king snakes (4,5 feet)

i also own two bearded dragons, which i breed, trwo leopard geckos, which i breed, two dogs, four cats, a pot bellied pig, and crabs ;) haha, the crustacion

FISH, i CURRENTLY own three large mouth bass and two bluegill i caught while fishing and unfortuneatley they are slowly dieng off becasue of the hooks that were left in them ( they swallowed them so deep i coulndt get them out without killing the fish) and its a 40 gallon tank

i am thinking about releasing them back to the lake, or giving them to a freind becasue my tank also seems a little small for them

when i get rid of them i plan on putting 4 baby red bellied pirahnas in there and i would like to know a few things about them,

is 76 degrees a good temp to keep them at?

wat vegataion is safe to put with them,(which ones will not gett torn up)

wat is the MAXIMUM number of pirahnas i can put in a 40 gallon tank?

wat kind of food do they need, DRY FOOD that is?

hmmmm nothing else i can think of.... oh ya hahha were can i purchase red bellied pirahnas if i dont want them in bulk?

of course i wil ahve the tnak set up BEFORE i get them btw

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP IT WILL BE APPRECIATED =]

I'm not a piranha expert, I am still learning as I am going.

I currently keep my gold piranha in 80 degrees.
I had 5 baby reds in my 50, but had to sell them as they outgrow the tank quickly.
Piranhas are picky eaters. My reds would eat anything live, dry, frozen, cubes, etc... But they were not fond of scallops.
My gold won't eat dry food (like algae wafers) at the moment, he loves shrimp, tilapia, and tiger barbs :)

Look in the classified sections here, there are stores that sell them.

Hope this helps out...

 nice.

hmmm. about the initial tank..4 baby reds (i'm assuming they'll be at least an inch" will do fine in a 40 gall for a month or so. but for you to achieve a good size and growth RATE...it'd be best to upgrade...or buy a bigger tank (75 gall at least) for them now so you can set the tank up (plants, rocks) early. with regards to plants, position them well to afford your piranhas some hiding space..be prepared for damage from time to time..they love munching/tearing the leaves. for feeding, it may sound wussy for someone new to piranhas, but get them used to pellets (hikari gold, massivore). avoid feeder fish as much as possible as they may carry diseases with them. good luck, and welcome to the hobby!
